Gentry Merkel is 13 years old and from Yorkville, IL. She just finished her 8th grade year and is looking forward to starting high school in the fall. Gentry has been a member of the Illinois Junior Rodeo Association since kindergarten. She competes in breakaway roping, goat tying, pole bending, and team roping.
Gentry’s proudest moment is starting her business, Just Peachy Halters. When she’s not rodeoing she can be found working on halter orders and responding to customers. She has donated over $500 worth of Just Peachy products to different organizations and fundraisers.
Gentry’s favorite thing about the Illinois Junior Rodeo Association are the people. “The association is like one big family. Everyone is there for each other and willing to jump in and help any any time. I love helping the younger kids and it’s been fun watching them improve with every run.”
